HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES?

As bad as Volkswagen service has been for me the past two oil-change visits, the Apple store made me feel much better about customer service in general. It took me four trips, but my CD drive is now working smoothly on my laptop.

In my four visits, not once was I talked down to. Not once did I have to wait long for service. Not once was the person (and I dealt with somebody different every time) not helpful and courteous. They told me the part could take five or more business days to order, but it came in two days. They said it could take 48 hours to put in the part once I brought in my laptop, but it took about three.

See what they did there, Volkswagen? They gave the most extreme length of time possible for something to take. Then, I'm all happy and stuff when it's done in a much shorter period of time. Volkswagen, on the other hand and many other service places for that matter, tell you a time frame and then go way over it more often than not. That is bad. Did I mention that the new CD drive was free?

Tina thinks the workers at Apple go searching for certain stuff on people's computers while they're working on them. Tina: "I bet they see some shit on those computers."

I was excited to have my old friend the CD drive back in my life. I uploaded all the CDs I've bought recently to my Ipod. And then I burned the mix CD I was trying to burn when the CD drive first died back in August. Yeah, it took a while for me to get it fixed. The CD I made is a little outdated now, but it totally rocks.

2008 WHO DAT? SAINTS MIX

We Will Rock You. Queen. (They rocked all the teams under .500.)
The Way We Live. Saints Remix. Baby Boy/Da Prince. (This needs to be updated. Joe Horn is in the song.)
Are You Ready? Creed. (I was ready for the season and will be again next year when this mix is relevant again.)
King of New Orleans. Better than Ezra. (Drew Brees is the King of New Orleans.)
Faith. Limp Bizkit. (Cuz you need that to be a Saints fan.)
New Orleans. Cowboy Mouth. (Noticing a theme, here?)
'Till I Collapse. Eminem. (For pumping up purposes.)
Proud Mary. CCR. (They were rolling against the Packers on Monday night. That was fun.)
Eye of the Tiger. Survivor. (Probably should keep this one just for LSU mixes.)
House of the Rising Sun. The Animals. (Gotta keep the theme going.)
Dangerous Game. 3 Doors Down. (The Saints played a dangerous game called: Blowing it at the end.)
The Saints are Coming. Green Day/U2. (The Saints are coming ... to the 2009 playoffs, baby!)
Livin' on a Prayer. Bon Jovi. (Apparently, we didn't do enough praying this season.)
Feels Like the First Time. Foreigner. (Cuz the season was new, and it felt like watching them for the first time?)
Heart of a Champion. Nelly. (They had the heart of a .500 team.)

I played the mix for Tina. She hears House of the Rising Sun. Tina: "Have I told you before that there used to be a bar in Fat City called the Rising Sun?" I tell her yes. "We used to come out of there at fucking 5 in the morning."

THE TINA CURSING CORNER

My mom is watching an Oprah episode with Suzi Orman about finance. Suzi adds up the debt of the audience. It is 2.3 million. Mom: "That is fucking ridiculous."

Mom says that besides the debt these people probably also owe money on their mortgage. "Who doesn't have a fucking mortgage?"

I ask mom some questions about mortgages. "My hairdresser pays $1,925 a month on her house. That's why she charges a fucking $100 for a haircut."

Mom keeps talking about Suzi. "I first saw her on QVC. But then she got so fucking popular that now she's all over the fucking place."

Mom tells me about this teacher who Oprah helped out. "He got something in the mail from her three months after meeting her. He opens up the envelope, and a fucking check fell out for $300,000."

Mom tells me that James Cromwell is a new character on the Six Feet Under episodes she's watching. I have a theory that Cromwell always turns into a bad guy in everything he's in. Mom: "I was like, 'Look at this shit.' How is he going to be bad on this show?"

CORRECTION

Milton Bradley was a free-agent signing for the Cubs. Yesterday, I said I liked the trade for Bradley. The Gene Pool regrets this error.

PARTING SHOTS
We're talking about a former co-worker.

Gamby: He's marrying somebody from Shaw.
Brick: And here I thought Shaw was an all boys school.

Brick is reading from a story.

Brick: He laid down the gauntlet.
Brick (then commenting): You never want to carry the gauntlet.
Me: Yeah. It's heavy.

THE DAILY TOP LIST
The top five subjects I could talk about with somebody for a really long time.

5) Journalism
It is my job.

4) Poker
Why do TV shows still have the characters playing five-card draw in poker episodes? This annoys me.

3) Wrestling
Next Friday marks 16 years since I started watching.

2) TV
New shows. Old shows. Commercials.

1) Sports
Sometimes I answer my cell phone: "Sports."
