GREATEST DAY OF WORK EVER

This has been a landmark day at work. Thanks to my beloved
Houston Rockets, the landscape here at the TP sports department
has shifted for a day.
You see, on the day Yao went down for the season, I bet my boss
that the Rockets would still make the playoffs. They then won 12
more games in a row for a 22-game winning streak, the second
longest NBA streak of all times. The bet, you ask?
If the Rockets didn't make the playoffs, I would have been forced
to wear a wrestling mask to work for three days at his discretion.
One of the days would have been the annual office Christmas
shindig, which attracts city big wigs and the such (old Maroon joke.)
But see, the Rockets reached the playoffs. Heck, they were the
fifth seed. So, really I won easily. Do I know my teams or what?
June 30 was the day to pay up. Marcus is helping with agate.
He is doing some baseball boxes and the Z's long box. And I get
to say things to him like. "Marcus, make a chart of the USA basketball
roster." and "I need a list of future Olympic sites."
Oh yeah, and I'm sitting in his seat typing this. So there. Take that, big guy.

ON THE DRIVE HOME

So, I'm driving home late last night and noticed two odd things.
One, the school zone light for St. Agnes on Jefferson Hwy was
flashing. Heck, I slowed down. I didn't want to hit any children.
But, why was that going off in the middle of the night? Was there
a secret summer camp meeting? Does this happen a lot?

And two, I'm passing by the new Shell station on Jeff Hwy and
noticed a misprint. At least, I hope it was a misprint. The gas
price was 4.95. I felt like I had warped to the summer of 2009.

QUICK ZEPHYRS NOTE

I can't do it, but somebody needs to start a firemartyscott.com
site. The Zephyrs manager just isn't getting it done.
He's lost the first games of his Z's stint on a team that
was doing OK and went to the PCL title game last season.
This guy has got to go.

MY DAILY TOP LIST
Since the Cubs are on a bit of a losing skid (and I don't think
this is a swoon), I'm beginning to anticipate another postseason
letdown. Of which there have been many in the past couple years.
So, here's my top 5 list of recent postseason suck moments.
Note: There are more, and thank God for LSU football.

1) January 2007: Saints vs. Bears (NFC championship game)
- down by 2 in the third quarter, they stall in Bears' territory.
2) April 2008: UNC vs. Kansas (Final Four)
- Ty and the boys almost come back from 40-12 deficit.
3) May 2008: Hornets vs. Spurs (West Conf. semifinals)
- Game 7 made worse by the fact I was in the house.
4) October 2007: Cubs vs. Diamondbacks (Divisional round)
- At least Big Z was rested for his Opening Day start in 2008.
5) April 2008: LSU women vs. Tennessee (Final Four)
- Fifth time not the charm for Lady Tigers. Buzzer-beater defeat.
