WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?
By my standards, I had a jam-packed day Wednesday. So, for the third time in Gene Pool history, here's a running diary of my day. This time, in note form.
10:20 a.m.: Wake up. Decide to go to Harrah's for Wednesday poker tournament.
11:25 a.m.: Arrive at sign-up station in casino after fighting traffic. Lady behind counter tells me tournament just closed. Me: "Are you kidding me?" Lady: "Sorry, sir."
11:35 a.m.: Choose to stay. Play regular game. Jackpot is at an all-time high of $164,000.
11:50 a.m.: Dude next to me begins aggravating me by not shutting the hell up. On and on about his upcoming vacation, his job, etc.
12:26 p.m.: Want to kill dude next to me. He starts every story with: "In the paper today, it said ..." or "In the paper the other day, they said ..." I guess that's good.
2:10 p.m.: Leave casino up $2.
2:51 p.m.: Get back home after stopping at Smoothie King. Then watch almost three episodes of Lost with Tina.
5:55 p.m.: Talk to Brick. Liam got sick, and Brick wants me to come in to work for him. I already had other plans. I tell Brick I'll call him back.
6:25 p.m.: Talking to Brick again and rushing to get ready. Tina: "This is ridiculous!" Brick was probably hoping to hear her curse. Sorry, guy. He did hear me say: "Shut up, mom!"
6:42 p.m.: Show up at the office. Help the scoreboard page get pointed in the right direction.
7:33 p.m.: Leave work. Head to Prytania to meet Chuck, Alexis, Laura, Peter, Josh and Adrienne to see Up in 3D for 8 p.m.
8:11 p.m.: Chuck and I discuss Tuesday's Braves-Cubs game in which the Braves won in extra innings. Me: "Did you see it? That was such bullshit!" Dad in the row in front of us with two small kids shoots a look at me. Oops.
8:47 p.m.: Up starts. Wasn't expecting much at all. Movie was awesome! Give it two thumbs Up. Ha. Really, I give it three and a half feet of Gene Pool water. A must for anyone with kids. Or a heart. Wanted to stay in my seat and watch the 10 p.m. showing as well.
10:20 p.m.: Outside the theatre, Peter suggests having a drink. Josh and Adrienne decline. Me: "I guess they weren't (pause) Up for it." Thank you. Thank you very much.
10:36 p.m.: Walk into Cooter Brown's to meet Peter, Laura and Alexis. See on the ticker that Sosa says he's retiring. Really? He wasn't already retired three years ago? Really? That's the lead tonight? Guy who hasn't played in three years says he's retiring. Stop the presses! Besides, fuck that guy.
11:25 p.m.: Riveting bar conversation includes each person's Mount Rushmore of posters for their room, Laura's camping adventure when she was 16 and same-sex marriage.
11:50 p.m.: Make decision that Alexis is my new hero.
12:20 a.m.: We leave after I've had two glasses of New Castle. I sit in my car for 10 minutes before starting up the car.
12:59 a.m.: Crash into bed. Pass out. Dream about having an adventure like Ed Asner. I mean Mr. Fredricksen.
THE TINA CURSING CORNER
My mom is tidying up early Wednesday. She's struggling. Talking to herself: "How do you lose a fucking shoe? ... Where the fuck is this shit?"
We discuss the new way the T-P is doing the People in the Living section. "Ya'll running out of people to write for the fucking paper."
Mom has expressed interest in typing again. I set her up on my old desktop. This is the first sentence she types: "There is too much shit going on."
I ask mom a question about Lost. "I'm fucking behind on all my shit."
During our episodes of Lost from Disc 3 of Season 4:
-- On Ben's travels in his flash-forward: "He's just going all over the fucking world, huh?"
-- On the engagement ring Jack gives Kate: "Looks like a piece of shit."

-- At the end of last week, I made some jewelry changes. I'm now wearing a ring Tina gave me in high school. It has my initials with a diamond between the two "G"s. Also, I took off my St. Christopher necklace in favor of a traditional gold cross.
-- I added a couple of gadgets to the blog the other day. Next to the latest entry, there is now a countdown to when I hit a year of blogging every day. Savor the moments. In addition, you can play air hockey at the bottom of the Web site. Thought it doesn't always work.
-- Bake and I played wiffle ball Sunday afternoon in the yard at the T-P. Who knew Bake was a switch-hitter? I don't believe I've ever made better use of a dinner break. My best hit was my first one when I tossed the ball up to myself. Don't think you can hit it farther than that.
-- After LeBron's buzzer-beater to win Game 2 vs. the Magic, I put an image of his reaction as my computer background at work. So, you could say the King was then double-jinxed by SI and me. I think I'll now change my background to Albert Pujols.
PARTING SHOT
D returns from dinner. When he left to eat, there were zero agate people.
D (getting to his desk): Now, we got two people here.
Me: Sort of. (Because I knew I was leaving soon.)
D (looking at me): Well, one and a half.
THE DAILY TOP LIST
My five favorite TV villains.
5) Colonel Ike Dubaku. 24. Season 7.
All he ever wanted to do was kill the cock-a-roach.
4) Edward Vogler. House. Season 1.
How dare he try to oust House.
3) Nina Myers. 24. Seasons 1-3.
When she was revealed as the CTU leak, I was blown away.
2) Sylar. Heroes.
Boom!
1) President Charles Logan. 24. Season 5.
Tina referred to him as "that little prick."
