IF I GO CRAZY, THEN WILL YOU STILL CALL ME SUPERMAN?
As I was getting ready to leave for Friday's 3 Doors Down concert in Lafayette, Tina asked me if I was taking Betsy along for the ride. Betsy is our pet name for the family GPS. She talks like a Betsy. Trust me. Tina: "You truly don't know how to put that on (the window). It fell on the fucking floor when you got out my car last time."
Me: Think it will get cold later tonight?
Tina: It is fucking February.
With traffic, it took 3:01 to get to the Cajundome, or as Betsy pronounces it: Kajindome. It took 2:14 to get home. In the 5:15 of driving, I had my iPod on shuffle the entire time. Not one 3 Doors Down song came on. I was so pissed. At least the show wasn't cancelled this time.
During one song, Paul said: Is this Staind?
Me: No. It's Cold. (This comes into play later.)
Paul and I, however, realized this right away, walked past about 100 people and were 10th in line in one of the other lines. Suckers.
Me: I was going to ask you the same thing.
Of the seven songs they played, we knew four of them. Pretty good for not being familiar with the name. During one of the songs we didn't know, one of the girls sitting in front of us leans over to her friend and asks: Is this Staind? Question of the night, apparently.
I'm not sure if they saw even 25 percent of the show. Besides snapping photos, they giggled, texted (possibly each other; we couldn't make out the words) and went to the bathroom three times, including during one of the major hits.
Paul and I made the background of about 100 of the photos. I told him he should write his name down so they could tag him on facebook.
1) After every song, Brad yelled: "Thank you, my friends." (We should be friends.)
2) Part of the set was a video screen that showed graphics to go with each song. Cool.
3) Brad said the band's first ever show was in Lafayette opening for Creed. Interesting.
At first, I didn't even want to attend this concert. Then, after Paul convinced me to buy tickets in August, the Sept. 23 show was cancelled because Brad's voice was on the fritz. It took forever for the show to be rescheduled, and I had to decide to keep the tickets instead of taking a refund.
I feel like I went through a lot to go to this show. In the end, it was definitely worth seeing my favorite band for the third time. Can't wait for concert No. 4.
On the way home, my goal was not to stop for gas. I left home with 3/4 of a tank, so I wasn't sure if I'd make it roundtrip. Plus, I was tired and really didn't feel like stopping off at a random exit for gas. I made it home with about 15 miles to spare. Whew.
We Don't Need No Education comes on my iPod as we get close to New Orleans.
Paul: Is this Led Zeppelin?
THE TINA CURSING CORNER
My mom is glad to be done with the dentist. (She's been 16 times since September.) She's still adjusting, however. "I still can't bite down with these fucking teeth."
Mom thinks the whole Joaquin Phoenix performance was contrived. "He's just fucking with the interviewer. Like (before) with the frog in his hair. 'Get this frog out of my hair.' I was like 'What the fuck?' He's just doing that stuff to fuck with the person."
We're talking about crawfish. Mom: Bobby's went up a quarter (per pound).
Me: Why?
Mom: I guess they're not plentiful. Like fucking gasoline used to be.
Godfather II is on. It's the scene where Michael's wife tells him she had an abortion. At the beginning of the scene: "Like he's going to let her take the fucking kids out of his house."
Mom is trying to remember who is in a certain movie. "It also has um um. I can't think of his fucking name." (It was Al Pacino. Al Pacino.)
Mom's favorite author is John Grisham, but she hasn't read one of his books in a while. "I'm behind six books. Yeah. He comes out with one every fucking year."
TV WEEK IN REVIEW
Three lines stick out to me from this past week.
1) Scrubs. Denise leaves the table to go bang a fat dude. Dr. Kelso: "I like her. She has girl balls."
2) 24. The head FBI agent says to Jack: "The rules are what make us better."
Jack: "Not today."
3) The Office. Angela is excited about her new $7,000 cat. Meredith: "I got to see this bitch."
PARTING SHOTS
Amy was late sending in the LSU women's basketball story. It went on my page.
Marcus (to me): Let me get you her number.
Bake (out of nowhere to me): Why don't you get her in the shower?
An hour later, Amy still hadn't sent in her story. Marcus had an explanation.
Marcus: She met a guy from the Florida paper, and they eloped.
Bake: She met Lopes?
THE DAILY TOP LIST
My five favorite plays
5) Oedipus the King. Sophocles.
If only he hadn't solved the riddle of man.
4) Hamlet. Billy Shakespeare.
I'm pretty proud of a research paper I wrote on it in the 11th grade.
3) Death of a Salesman. Arthur Miller.
Who doesn't want to be well-liked?
2) Macbeth. Billy Shakespeare.
Act 1. Scene VII. "I dare do all that may become a man; Who dares do more is none."
1) The Importance of Being Earnest. Oscar Wilde.
So freaking funny. And you can read it in one sitting.
