HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY
On the way home from the 3 Doors Down concert (more on that later and much more tomorrow) Friday night, Paul and I, in keeping with our tradition at out-of-town events, stopped at Waffle House. I had two waffles and a side of grits. Waffle House has long been one of my favorite spots, and it's always bothered me that we have none in the immediate area.
Paul was giving me the directions to WH, but he got us semi-lost. Instead of getting there in like two minutes, we got there in like 15. This would come to have greater significance later. It also is important to note that Paul paid for the meal because I drove. (We did the opposite the first time we went to the 3 Doors Down concert back in September. You remember. The one that was cancelled.)
We stopped at the Wal-Mart in Baton Rouge (don't ask why), and I told Paul as we were leaving that this was his last chance to buy some candy before Valentine's Day.
Paul: It already is Valentine's Day.
Me: Yeah. Technically.
Paul: And I bought you dinner on Valentine's Day.
Me: No. You didn't. That's gross. Besides, we got there before midnight.
Paul: But I didn't pay until after midnight.
Me: Eww. So, that's why you tried to get us lost on the way there.
So, not only did I once again not have plans for Valentine's Day, but I was bought dinner by Paul on Valentine's Day. That also makes me the woman in this scenario. Great.
Couple that with the fact that Paul is considering making my ringtone Guy Love (from the Scrubs musical), and we're heading down a slippery slope. HELP!
THE TINA CURSING CORNER
My mom opens the door Saturday morning. "Damn. It fucking rained some more."
Mom: Did ya'll run into the rain on the way to the concert?
Me: No. We did on the way back.
Mom: Fucking stormed here.
The March issue of Playboy arrived.
1) Mom doesn't recognize the cover girl. "Aubrey O'Day? I never heard of her. I read the article, and I still don't know who the fuck that is."
2) Mom suspects something wrong with the annual 25 hottest celebrity list. "I think this is a fuck-up. It says Jessica Simpson. That ain't Jessica Simpson. That's Cameron Diaz." (I don't think it was either one.)
DON'T TAKE AWAY MY HOPES AND DREAMS
The vending machine in the cafeteria is no longer out of order. However, you are not allowed to purchase anything from the candy rack, which, of course, includes our five-cent Skittles. It tells you to make another selection. You can purchase an item from any other rack.
What this means to the future of our cheap candy, I'm not quite sure. Hopefully, there's just a problem with the rack in general and it's not them trying to fix the price of the Skittles. We'll see what happens next week. As of now, I have a feeling we'll be OK.
PARTING SHOTS
Marcus is making up facts about a girl to make it seem like she's perfect for me.
Marcus: ... And she blogs. But she has five boyfriends.
D: Gene could be the 6th man. That's a good spot.
Bake: Coming off the bench.
Marcus: He might be the Subway Sub of the game.
We're watching the 3-point shootout at NBA All-Star Weekend.
Me: Rashard Lewis just made the whole rack.
Bake: Nothing like a good rack.
THE DAILY TOP LIST
My favorite five moments of the 3 Doors Down concert. (More about the overall experience tomorrow.)
5) The opening song was "new."
I had no idea they had new material. Good song, too. It works on multiple levels. I think it can be both the gay rights theme song and the NBA Finals theme song. (I just looked it up, and it was a theme for the Beijing Olympics. Some fan I am.)
4) The crazy older woman.
Most of the folks in my section were distracted during one song by a woman on the floor level fighting with security. They were escorting her out for disturbing the peace, but she didn't go quietly. Started beating on the security guy. Feisty old broad. Though she did get cuffed.
3) Brad (that's the lead singer) played drums on Kryptonite.
Kryptonite was the first song they played upon returning to the stage.
2) Brad jumped into the crowd.
During Duck and Run, he sprinted from the back of the stage and landed in about the eighth row. The cool part was he didn't break singing stride.
1) They played my favorite song.
My favorite 3DD song is not a single, and they only played three non-single songs, including another one that was written in New Orleans. I was stoked. Came right after Kryptonite. Crazy.
